Thinking Beyond Opioids: Proactive Ways to Address Pain in Patients With IBD

Today we are joined by gastroenterologist Dr. Gil Melmed. He discusses the high prevalence of pain in patients with IBD, especially among those hospitalized with acute pain. He also highlights the risks associated with opioid use and advocates for a proactive pain management approach while describing a proactive pain bundle implemented at Cedars-Sinai, which includes acetaminophen, gabapentin, and NSAIDs, aiming to minimize opioid use.
